Japan 2027 is a project of Niche Networks Limited, trading as WTFT.
By submitting a dedication or making a payment, you agree to the Dedication Terms below. This document also explains how we use personal information.
Dedication Terms
The dedication
- Each dedication occupies exactly one kilometre. Your dedication will be assigned to the next available kilometre. You will receive its number and a public link once it is confirmed.
- Franck Benhamou intends to walk every dedicated kilometre in honour of the person named. A dedication remains valid whether it is confirmed before or after the kilometre has been walked.
- You acknowledge that the route, dates or distances may change, or that the walk may be suspended or terminated, because of safety, health, weather or other practical circumstances.
- If the walk is modified, suspended or terminated, the dedication will remain part of the Japan 2027 archive, but completion of its corresponding physical kilometre cannot be guaranteed. This does not entitle you to a refund.
Funding a dedication
Every dedication is funded in one of two ways, which you choose when submitting the form:
- Sponsored kilometre (free). A company may fund kilometres in advance so that people can dedicate them free of charge. To use a sponsored kilometre, you must verify your email address; the kilometre is allocated only after successful verification. A small acknowledgement of the sponsor funding the kilometre will appear with the dedication. Each email address may normally claim only one sponsored kilometre, unless approved otherwise.
- Fund the kilometre yourself (€10). Your contribution helps fund Japan 2027. The kilometre is allocated only after Stripe confirms your payment.
Sponsored and self-funded dedications receive identical public prominence; the only difference is the sponsor acknowledgement attached to sponsored kilometres. You may also support Japan 2027 with a payment without creating a dedication; such support does not allocate a kilometre.
Public content
- The kilometre number, recipient’s display name, dedication message and—if you choose—your name will be public.
- Please use a first name, nickname or other appropriate display name and do not include private or sensitive information.
- By submitting content, you confirm that you have the right to submit it, that it is sincere and that it does not infringe another person’s rights.
- WTFT may correct formatting and hide, edit or remove content that is unlawful, offensive, promotional or creates a reasonable privacy or safety concern.
- The person named may request correction, anonymisation or removal by writing to contact@wtft.life.
- Your message is intended to remain part of the Japan 2027 archive for as long as the archive is operated. Permanent technical availability cannot be guaranteed.
Payments
- All payments are final and non-refundable, including if the route changes or the walk is suspended or terminated, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
- Self-funded dedications (€10) and support payments help fund the walk and operate the dedication platform. They are not charitable donations unless expressly stated otherwise.
- Sponsored kilometres are funded in advance by the sponsor; using one does not require any payment from you.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. WTFT does not store your complete card details.
Privacy Notice
Information we collect
When you submit a dedication, we collect:
- Your name and email address
- The recipient’s display name and your dedication message
- How your kilometre is funded (by you or by a sponsor), your payment status and kilometre allocation
- Your language and newsletter preference
- Basic technical information needed to operate and protect the website
If you support Japan 2027 without a dedication, we collect your email address, support amount, payment status and newsletter preference.
Stripe processes your payment information when you make a payment. If you use a sponsored kilometre, your email address is used to verify you and to prevent the same address from repeatedly claiming sponsored kilometres; it is not shared with the sponsor.
How we use it
We use this information to:
- Process and publish the dedication
- Allocate kilometres
- Process payments
- Send confirmation emails
- Operate and protect Japan 2027
- Maintain financial and legal records
- Send WTFT stories and updates when you have opted in
We process this information to fulfil the dedication or payment transaction, meet legal obligations, operate the project and, for the newsletter, based on your consent.
Public dedications
- Your kilometre number, dedication and recipient’s display name will be publicly accessible and may appear in search engines.
- Please do not submit private or sensitive information.
- A person named in a dedication may request correction, anonymisation or removal by contacting contact@wtft.life.
Newsletter
- Submitting a dedication or making a payment does not automatically subscribe you to the WTFT newsletter.
- If you select the optional newsletter checkbox, the email address you provide will be submitted to the existing WTFT newsletter subscription system operated through Ghost. This happens when you submit the dedication or support form and does not depend on whether a payment is completed.
- Ghost handles subscription confirmation, newsletter delivery and unsubscribing. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every newsletter.
- Withdrawing from the newsletter does not affect your dedication. The person named in your dedication will not be subscribed.
Service providers
We use service providers to operate the project, including Stripe for payments, Ghost for newsletters, and providers of website hosting, database storage and transactional email.
They receive only the information needed to provide their services. We do not sell personal information or give your contact details to sponsors or content creators.
Some providers may process information outside your country using recognised legal safeguards.
Retention
- Dedications are intended to remain in the Japan 2027 archive unless correction, anonymisation or removal is requested.
- Payment records are retained for the legally required period. Newsletter information is retained until you unsubscribe. Uncompleted dedication records are deleted when they are no longer needed.
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion or restriction of your information, object to certain processing, withdraw newsletter consent or complain to the relevant data protection authority.
To make a request, contact contact@wtft.life.
